Love

How often do you read about someone who is trying to define LOVE? Seems everyone has his/her ideas about what love really is. One of my favorites is found in I Corinthians 13, most of you know that one. The other I found in "Friendship with God", by Neale Donald Walsch. Here it is:

(Love) is that which is without condition, without limitation, and without need.

Because it is without condition, it requires nothing in order to be expressed.

It asks nothing in return.

It withdraws nothing in retaliation.

Because it is without limitation, it places no limitation on another.

It knows no ending, but goes on forever.

It experiences no boundary or barrier.

Because it is without need, it seeks to take nothing not freely given.

It seeks to hold nothing not wishing to be held.

It seeks to give nothing not joyously welcomed.

And it is free. Love is that which is free, for freedom is the essence of what God is, and love is God, expressed

Thanks for visiting Rick. I have visited your blog and like what I read. I have seen your comments on Jim’s blog. Concerning your question on this post. Would the following line of the quote I used deal with “the absence of lack”?
“Because it is without need, it seeks to take nothing not freely given.”

    “it asks nothing in return”

God is Love and Jesus was Love(made flesh). Jesus asked for everything. I don’t think I can agree with this part.

    I enjoy your blog

Thank you for visiting. Your comments are always appreciated. For me, I have come to believe that God requires nothing of us to benefit from His love. I think that Christianity as a whole has made “doing” the primary thing, instead of “being”. And, deep inside our souls, our being, we are unconditional love as is He. To me, it is love that is primary. After all, Jesus told is to love God and our neighbors. This was the greatest

I agree, most of Christianity is all about “doing” as a ladder to get “closer” to God instead of being in the Love of God(Christ-God made flesh). All religions have this in common. A sort of behavior modification program.

However, concerning real Christianity, doesn’t living and being in God’s Love(the real center of Christ) require or produce a response by the created to the creator. Isn’t this response crucial and really the center of the matter? Isn’t this response the whole reason for creation?

Good thoughts. My belief is that because God is the All in All, that means that there is nothing that is NOT Him. Hence, He IS us and we ARE Him. We’re made of the same “stuff”. Our response to that is one of extreme gratitude. How do we arrive at that place of gratitude? Everyone is on his/her own journey of discovery of that truth. It took me 59 years of institutional religion to find that it doesn’t work.It has taken three years for God to lead me to that place of gratitude. I thank Him every day that He did.The realization that He is in me, and conversely, I in Him, the same “stuff”, has led me a place of extreme gratitude; for my abundance, my family, my journey, for the qualities that ARE Him, and for the gift of God which is finding out who I really am. If I continue just “being”, I am amazed at the revelations given to me about myself and my existence. It only makes me thank Him more for His unconditional love, kindness, and compassion; not just to me, but to each and every human “being” and all sentient “beings”.Thanks for your comments. Please come back…

Maybe Jesus ‘asked’ for the benefit of those around.

What if the only response necessary is to live loved, free, accepted, at peace, full of joy and content?

I think that IS the response, Rick….
