Spong is a phenominal resourse, if you get a chance pick up Jesus for the Non Religious, one of my favorite Spong writings, full of wisdom and understanding. Rescuing The Bible From Fundalmentalism would probably be similar to Liberating the Gospels, what do you think of it so far Don?

Just discovered Spong as a resource. In my Fundy days, he was the antithesis of everything I thought I stood for. I really like the theme of the book. It makes so much sense that the authors of the gospels were using Midrash as the method for writing each of the books. They were Jews writing for Jews; with the possible exception of Luke, who was a converted Gentile, but intelligent enough to write as a Jew. I will read “Rescuing the Bible…..”.

Just finished reading “Rescuing the Bible…” It will be one of my “primary” resources from now on. It is an excellent book.

Which book would be best to read first? This one…or Rescuing the Bible? I’m intrigued.

I think a chronological approach was probably best for me, being a history fan…however, I wasn’t able to stick with that plan completely. I read “Rescuing..” first, then, “Why Christianity Must Change or Die”, then “Sins of Scripture”, then “Jesus for the Non-religious”. Doing them chronologically lets you see Spongs evolution of belief, however, of the two, Why Christianity..” would be better first. You love all his work, most of which I’ve read. Thanks for stopping by. I love your blog. I enjoy discussing these subjects!
